How CFO-MOZ began
It started with one woman saying, “Yes.”
1995
Erin Mitchell went on her first mission trip to Mozambique.
1997
That trip led to full-time service in Mozambique.
2008
CFO-MOZ was born from Erin’s commitment to provide care for orphans.
Today
Eighteen years of partnership with national leaders across Mozambique.
Eighteen years of relationship
A seed was planted in 1997 when Erin Mitchell began serving at a newly begun orphanage in Mozambique. This became her life’s work. During the early years of her service, her parents visited many times and built relationships with people who felt called to also care for orphans, widows, and those in great need in their own communities. Those leaders are now scattered throughout the country caring for the needs of orphans and many others around them — and we have stayed in touch, watching how they’ve impacted the people around them.
Fast forward to 2008 — the year Caring for Orphans was formally birthed. A group of ten longtime friends, concerned about the welfare of orphans and communities in Mozambique, wanted to become financially supportive of the work there. Gradually, CFO-MOZ began to support the leaders we had built relationships with, including Erin and her coworker from Zimbabwe.
It has now been eighteen years since CFO-MOZ began. It has been extremely rewarding to watch the growth of the work our partners have accomplished with God’s help and the funds we’re able to raise for their ministries to continue and expand. They have worked tirelessly to be the hands and feet of Jesus, pouring out His love and care in a myriad of ways. Many young people have been given the support they needed, and in turn, have given back from what they were given.
